Specialist advice needed more than ever

The SMSF Association has stated there has never been a more critical time for trustees to receive specialist SMSF financial advice.

The COVID-19 pandemic has created a situation where specialist SMSF financial advice is more important than ever before, the head of an industry body has said.

During his opening address at his organisation’s Technical Day 2020, SMSF Association chief executive John Maroney said: “SMSFs need specialist advice from a calming, trusted adviser. Now is not the time for rash decisions, so having a learned, reassuring voice in an SMSF’s corner is, we would argue, critical, especially at this pivotal moment in history.”

Maroney predicted an SMSF specialist adviser who provides future solutions for clients with a degree of empathy will be rewarded with a loyal and expanding client base, and reaffirmed the SMSF Association’s continued support for these practitioners.

“Your association will continue to provide you with information on SMSF strategy to share with your clients during this period of extreme uncertainty,” he said.

“We do not pretend to have all the answers, no one does, but let me assure you we will leave no stone unturned to support you during this challenging time.”

To this end, he announced the official launch of the new SMSF Association website offering enhanced features for members.

“These features include a resource library with new navigation tools and refreshed categories to make it easier to find the technical documents available to all professional members 24/7,” he revealed.

“The resource library will enable you to remain up-to-date and provide accurate SMSF advice and services to clients.

“The member dashboard again [has] new navigation tools and refreshed menu items. The dashboard will provide a snapshot of CPD (continuing professional development) to ensure you are on track to meet your requirements. The Dashboard will also enable you to see an overview of your membership and remain up to date with the Association.”

In addition, the website contains new adviser education modules aimed at providing a more flexible path to achieve the industry body’s SMSF Specialist Adviser accreditation.
