In the lead-up to many measures of the Turnbull government’s new superannuation legislation commencing on 1 July, a number of areas must be reviewed and presumably amended to ensure SMSFs are in line with the new rules.

Listed investment companies continue to be included in portfolios by SMSFs, which make up the large bulk, if not the majority, of the shareholders in these structures.

SMSF investors have always favoured direct investing, making allocations to managed funds unattractive for many. However, in the current low interest rate environment, new avenues to markets are being sought.
