Darin is the founder and publisher of Benchmark Media, an independent publishing house whose mastheads include financialobserver, theinstoreport and selfmanagedsuper.
He has been covering the financial services space for the past 8 years and in this time he has worked for a variety of trade publications including Money Management, and IFA magazine.
Darin has also written for the Money section published in The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age.
Prior to starting Benchmark Darin was responsible for the re-launch of SMSF magazine under Morningstar Media, a pioneering publication in the fastest growing sector of the superannuation industry. He was also Managing Editor of all of the Morningstar Media mastheads.
Jason is a senior journalist with Benchmark Media and writes for the selfmanagedsuper website and magazine and smstrusteenews website.
He has covered financial services since 1999 and has written about life insurance, superannuation, investment management and financial advice, in both a freelance and in-house capacity, and also did a brief stint as a media manager for an industry association.
He has been the editor of trade titles Money Management and Financial Standard, and was most recently senior journalist with life insurance title Riskinfo.
Taras Misko is Benchmark Media’s sub-editor, working across all the company’s titles: financialobserver, theinstoreport and selfmanagedsuper.
Taras has 20 years’ experience in the media and communications industry.
Prior to Benchmark Media, he worked at Morningstar Australasia, sub-editing a range of financial services publications, including InvestorDaily, IFA, Investor Weekly and SMSF.
From 2000 to 2005, he worked in corporate and financial services public relations at listed insurer IAG and Edelman Public Relations Worldwide.
He began his career as a journalist with Australian Associated Press in 1992.
During his seven years at AAP, he worked in the Canberra press gallery, on the Sydney finance desk and was deputy bureau chief of the Sydney newsroom.
Tharshini Ashokan is a cadet journalist with Benchmark Media. Prior to starting at Benchmark Media in May 2019, she worked in business administration and human resources across a number of industries in Australia and the United Kingdom. Tharshini is completing a Graduate Diploma in Advanced Journalism at the University of Technology, Sydney. She has a Bachelor of Business Administration/Bachelor of Commerce-Accounting degree from Macquarie University.

Prior to starting at Benchmark, Binati worked with DSP Investment Managers as a part of the consumer marketing team. She has a Master of Business Administration degree from Coventry University, United Kingdom.

David is Benchmark Media’s Head of Sales & Marketing, working across smsmagazine, smstrusteenews & financialobserver.
He is responsible for bringing clients campaigns to life via print & digital media, video content, and event sponsorships. Assisting clients reach their target audience of Financial Planners, Accountants & SMS Trustees is his main priority.
David Has worked in financial services media for several years after 10 years as an independent financial planner. Prior to this David held various management roles, including marketing and business development, at insurers and fund managers, so he knows the industry well from “both sides”.
Cynthia O’Young is the Events Manager at Benchmark Media.
Prior to starting at Benchmark Media in January 2013, Cynthia managed events in the aged care and tourism industries for peak bodies.
Cynthia has a Diploma of Event Management as well as a Bachelor of Arts majoring in Economics (Social Science) and Government from the University of Sydney.
Jenny is an events manager at Benchmark Media. She has been in the M.I.C.E. industry for 12 years and has managed events in the Philippines, Thailand and Singapore.
She has organised and managed exhibitions, conferences, gala dinners and awards nights for various sectors such as healthcare, construction, IT, entrepreneurship and manufacturing.
Jenny has a degree in Mass Communications and a minor in Broadcast Journalism from St. Scholastica’s College Manila, Philippines.
