The Stockbrokers and Investment Advisers Association (SIAA) has appointed CommSec chief operating officer Stephen Norton and Canaccord Genuity Wealth Management national head of advisers Chris Webster to its board of directors.
The two appointments follow gaps left by the departures of Michelle Inns and Liam Madden.
“Stephen and Chris’ appointments strengthen the diversity of experience represented on the board,” SIAA chief executive Maria Lykouras said.
“They have both built distinguished careers across the financial services industry and will help ensure SIAA continues to benefit from the insights of senior industry practitioners as we continue to advocate for our members.”
Norton has more than two-and-a-half decades’ experience across stockbroking, capital markets, investment management, institutional banking and wealth management. Previously, he held senior roles with Instinet, UBS Private Bank and HSBC Investment Management.
Webster, who was previously a director on SIAA’s board between February 2021 and October 2023, also has more than 20 years’ experience in financial services and has held senior positions at Euroz Harleys and Deutsche Bank in the past.
SIAA chair Hamish Dee welcomed the appointment of the pair and recognised they brought a broad range of experience to their positions.
“Both bring valuable insights and perspective, adding to the strong mix of industry, leadership and governance experience across the board, and we look forward to their contribution,” Dee noted.
Inns left the SIAA board when she vacated her roles as chief operating officer and executive director at LGT, while Madden stepped down when he also left his position as managing director and general counsel at Instinet.
“Michelle was a strong advocate for greater diversity across our profession and was instrumental in driving initiatives focused on improving gender balance, while Liam’s legal expertise and governance experience were invaluable to the board,” Dee acknowledged.
