The FAAA has announced its policy, advocacy and standards general manager, Phil Anderson, will retire at the end of 2026.

The Financial Advice Association Australia (FAAA) has announced policy, advocacy and standards general manager and former Association of Financial Advisers (AFA) chief executive Phil Anderson will retire on 27 November 2026.

Anderson has spent over three decades working in the financial services industry and has been in his current role at the FAAA since April 2023, when the AFA merged with the Financial Planning Association of Australia (FPA).

FAAA chief executive Sarah Abood thanked him for his outstanding contributions to the financial advice profession and the industry body.

“He has been absolutely tireless in shaping numerous important policy and standards outcomes, and building strong stakeholder relationships across government, media and peak bodies, as well as the broader profession,” Abood said.

In addition, she attributed the success of the merger between the AFA and FPA to his strong leadership.

In total, he worked over a period of 13 years across both the AFA and FAAA.

Prior to joining the AFA, he had senior roles at AMP, NAB, Colonial First State and Netwealth.

“He has consistently promoted the value of financial advice and has been a fierce supporter of financial advisers and planners and the important work they do for their clients,” Abood noted.

The FAAA Congress in November will mark his farewell from the industry.

Anderson described his time in the sector as a privilege, allowing him to work alongside colleagues, members and stakeholders who are passionate about advancing the profession.

“While we have faced a series of challenges along the way, from the FOFA (Future of Financial Advice) reforms in 2011/12 through to the substantial announcements by the [Financial Services] Minister [Daniel Mulino] last week, I am proud of what we have achieved together and look forward to following the FAAA’s ongoing success,” he indicated.

He plans to continue to contribute to the advice profession following retirement from full-time work.
