Specialist service provider Smarter SMSF has enhanced the curriculum of one of its education options to include all of the superannuation and tax legislation changes up to April 2026.
The changes have been made to the Smarter education tier of the firm’s SMSF Essentials Course, which has seen a complete redesign with an emphasis on high interaction with students. To this end, users will now be able to gain advantage from a variety of new instructional videos and an overall enhanced multi-media experience.
The upgrade to the educational package has resulted in the SMSF Essentials Course now being able to provide practitioner users with 25 accredited continuing professional development (CPD) hours. Previously the course carried 18 accredited CPD hours.
Smarter SMSF chief executive and co-founder Aaron Dunn noted the initiative was needed to allow the best possibility for practitioners to navigate the amount of change the sector is currently witnessing.
“The jump to 25 CPD hours is a direct response to the increasing complexity practitioners face daily. We haven’t just added more content; we’ve refined what is ‘essential’ to ensure that every minute spent in this course translates into practical competency,” Dunn explained.
With regard to some of the more specific amendments, Module 1 has been completely redesigned. The module provides insights into understanding the SMSF definition and how a practitioner must operate in today’s legislative and regulatory environment, and covers subjects such as estate planning, reporting obligations, taxation, contributions, investment rules, and pensions and drawdowns.
Smarter SMSF technical and education manager Tim Miller pointed out the updates are of a very practical nature.
“Education should never be static and the legislation continues to move,” Miller said.
“This updated version of the course to April 2026 ensures that students are not only up to date with the super and tax laws, but are practically equipped with materials that are built to help them to bridge the gap between technical knowledge and application with your SMSF clients.”
The improved course is now available on the organisation’s platform and students will also receive a complimentary period of SMSF Association membership as an associate.
