Technology-enabled administrator SMSFai and sister company AI Specialist Tax Services have announced a strategic partnership with LightYear Group and Tax Guru Ai that will allow fund administration and tax service providers access to an artificial intelligence (AI) platform.
Specifically, the development means these SMSF stakeholders will now have the ability to gain access to research from the Tax Guru Ai application.
“SMSF administration alone no longer meets the needs of sophisticated investors. High net worth individuals with digital-asset exposure require intelligent structuring and strategic oversight. AI is not here to replace trusted advisers, it elevates them. We will continue to lead the industry by embedding AI into a forward-thinking, client-focused service model,” SMSFai founder Olivia Long said.
According to the entities involved, the partnership will combine SMSF and digital-asset expertise with AI technology to enable faster, smarter and more consistent outcomes for clients.
LightYear Group chief executive Mike Jeffries and Grant Abbott founded and developed Tax Guru Ai to enable the rapid interpretation of legislation and technical guidance for professional services firms, while adhering to strict governance and compliance standards.
Tax Guru Ai, while independent of LightYear Group, has a partnership pilot program with the organisaton to provide access to the solution for its member firms.
Tax Guru Ai was created by director Grant Abbott, who wanted to use AI to provide solutions to make the lives of SMSF specialist accountants and financial advisers easier. It is proprietary closed large language model trained with curated tax legislation, tax cases, tax research, and strategy. It has recently completed full beta testing and moved to a revenue model provided as an application to accounting firms, planners, advisors, and chief financial officers.
“Grant Abbott is a highly respected authority within Australia’s accounting and estate planning landscape, and his calibre of expertise is exactly the benchmark we aim to provide for our clients,” Long noted.
She indicated the move builds on a period of growth for SMSFai during 2025 as the firm became a trusted specialist provider to Australia’s major cryptocurrency providers.
Further LightYear Group, parent company of LightYear Docs, will support SMSFai through the provision of legal documentation and legal support services, through to digital asset forensics services from its new business unit, LightYear Forensics headed by Maureen Gabriel.
The new partnership will provide clients of SMSFai and AI Specialist Tax Services an integrated solution that combines cryptocurrency tax and structuring advice, SMSF administration and compliance, AI-driven technical support and long-term wealth oversight on a par with private family offices.
