An SMSF administration provider has launched a series of short, animated videos available to all advice providers to help educate trustees and members.

SMSF Alliance has launched a series of animated videos to assist advisers educate clients about different aspects of owning and running their own fund.

The videos are available through a curated page on the firm’s website under the banner of SMSF Alliance TV, with the site also including videos produced by the ATO. The page is organised around key topics, such as setting up an SMSF, investments, contributions and payments, and administration and wind-up.

Alternatively, the firm’s own videos can be found on its YouTube channel.

SMSF Alliance principal David Busoli said the videos were created to provide information for potential or existing SMSF trustees and were designed to be used by advice practitioners to boost their services to clients.

“We get questions regularly on why someone should open an SMSF in comparison to [an account with] a large Australian Prudential Regulation Authority-regulated fund and thought some balanced views were needed,” Busoli told selfmanagedsuper.

“Other videos relate to the difficulties in setting up a fund and we aim to take away some of the fear in that process.”

He said the videos on the website were ranked on a 10-star rating scale based on their coverage of the topic and new videos would continue to be added.

“The site has been inspired by the ATO’s collection of animated, educational SMSF videos and utilises their format, but also contains videos that we have created to enhance or replace theirs,” he said.

“Our videos are intended to be viewed in conjunction with the ATO’s and we intend to add videos that complement and expand on ATO content where we feel their version is a bit light on.”
