Specialist SMSF education and administration service provider Heffron celebrated its 25th anniversary last weekend, marking more than two decades of providing technical and actuarial expertise to accountants and financial advisers in the sector.
Founded by husband and wife duo Meg and Martin Heffron in 1998, the firm is now one of the sector’s largest independent administrators, offering services encompassing administration, technical support for accountants and advisers, actuarial certificates, documentation and education to more than 5000 SMSF funds.
Heffron managing director Meg Heffron said she had observed significant industry changes over the years and noted the SMSF service provider has evolved to keep pace with these shifts.
“The industry has come a long way from when we started out. Back then, so many of the strategic opportunities SMSFs offer were poorly understood and our focus in the early days was effectively educating accountants and advisers one by one by consulting on individual client cases,” she said.
“Over time both Heffron and other firms expanded into offering proper training sessions to get the word out more broadly and these days there are many specialists putting some great strategies in place to help clients.
“We now have offices in three states, a team that’s over 90 strong and still growing, services that cover pretty much everything an accountant or adviser might need when it comes to SMSFs and an enviable reputation for technical strength.
“And I’d like to think we’ve made a positive difference to the industry we work in, which barely existed when we first started.”
Heffron, whose husband died in 2020, took the opportunity to thank the firm’s clients and staff, stating the administrator was committed to providing support to the sector for many years to come.
“Thanks to wonderful support from a great many quarters, Heffron is still here. It’s been an absolute privilege to have shared the last 25 years with so many clients and professional colleagues, some of whom have been with us since the very beginning,” she said.
“We look forward to continuing to provide support and a service to new generations of professionals and individuals over the next 25 years.”
