Vanguard Australia has announced Robin Bowerman will retire at the close of the year, ending his time on the company’s executive team and his role as head of corporate affairs.
The move brings the curtain down on a 19-year stint at the fund manager during which time he led and oversaw the firm’s retail, strategy, corporate affairs and advocacy activities.
Bowerman joined Vanguard Australia in 2003 when he was hired by Jeremy Duffield. His initial position was head of retail where his responsibilities included the foundation and operation of its Financial Adviser Services unit, a business arm now serving in excess of 12,000 practitioners in the Australian market.
In 2009, he played a key role in bringing Vanguard’s exchange-traded fund (ETF) offering into the Australian market and was an integral part in the launch of both Vanguard Personal Investor in 2020 and Vanguard Super earlier this year.
In addition, he was a media spokesperson for the wealth manager and presented at various events across the industry. He also co-authored the book Wealth of Experience with Duffield, demonstrating the importance he placed on financial literacy.
His involvement in the financial services industry was not restricted to his responsibilities at Vanguard Australia. To this end, he was a board member of the SMSF Association and founded the Financial Services Council ETF working group. His participation in the sector extended to a number of industry forums as well.
“On behalf of the Australian executive team, and the broader business, I’d like to thank Robin for his significant contributions to the growth and development of not only our own business, but of the broader financial services industry,” Vanguard Australia managing director Daniel Shrimski said.
“Robin’s passion and dedication to Australian investors’ financial well-being has been exemplary and provided many who worked with him the tools to carry that forward. All of us at Vanguard wish Robin every success with the next phase of his life.”
Bowerman will officially conclude his employment with Vanguard Australia at the end of the month.
