Accurium will offer accounting firms education services outside the SMSF sector after requests for information on personal and small business tax matters.

Actuarial certificate provider Accurium will expand its education service offering beyond SMSFs and will provide content related to tax, ethics and practice management for accounting firms that offer services unrelated to SMSFs.

In an update on its website, Accurium managing director Doug McBirnie said “as part of our mission to support our accounting clients, we have been expanding our award-winning education offering”, adding the firm’s online TechHub, which hosts a range of SMSF technical content, was accessed by 2600 member firms.

“We recognise that many of our clients’ businesses offer services outside of SMSFs and that they need continuing professional development (CPD) across a broad range of topics,” McBirnie said.

“Feedback from clients has indicated strong demand for professional development opportunities in personal and small business taxation and broader tax planning strategies.

“Accurium’s technical team are working with experts in each area to deliver quality CPD accredited education live and on demand in [Accurium’s online education platform] CPD+.”

He noted the platform was launched in 2021 with live immersive and interactive web classes, as well as on-demand content, and offered CPD to advisers and accountants.

Current non-SMSF-related content available via CPD+ includes seminars on Division 7A deemed dividends, the taxation of residential rental properties and ethics in practice for advisers and accountants.

Alongside its core business of supplying actuarial certificates to the SMSF sector, Accurium has been a long-term SMSF education provider and is an SMSF Association (SMSFA) Accredited Educator providing SMSFA and Financial Adviser Standards and Ethics Authority accredited CPD.

In October 2021, Accurium was sold by then parent company Challenger to Countplus for $9 million, with Countplus stating at the time the purchase was a natural fit for the national network of advice and accounting practices.
