FSC appoints new CEO

FSC Blake Briggs

The Financial Services Council (FSC) has appointed Blake Briggs permanently as its new chief executive.

The announcement was made after the industry body conducted an executive search process and comes after Briggs had been acting in the role since December last year.

Briggs takes up his new position having been a part of the FSC for the past eight years serving as deputy chief executive and senior policy manager for superannuation during that time.

“The FSC board welcomes Blake to his new position. Blake has proven he is a strong leader for the FSC who has a commitment to the organisation’s mission of delivering a financially secure future for all Australians,” FSC chair David Bryant said of the move.

“Under Blake’s policy leadership, the FSC has been an advocate for reforms that will deliver a more competitive, efficient and growing financial services sector that delivers high-quality products to Australian consumers.”

FSC co-chair Jen Driscoll also acknowledged the new chapter for the industry body.

“The FSC is a leading voice for the funds management, life insurance, financial advice and superannuation sectors and under Blake’s stewardship we look forward to the FSC continuing to be a strong advocate for the industry,” Driscoll said.

Briggs replaces former chief executive Sally Loane, who vacated the position in October 2021 after completing a seven-year stint leading the organisation.

At the time, Bryant recognised the contribution she made during her period of stewardship and wished her well for the next chapter of her professional career.

“Sally strengthened the FSC’s contributions in a range of important policy areas – for our industry and the consumers we serve, supported our members as they sought to undertake an extensive program of regulatory change and expanded the FSC’s membership and engagement across what is a broad industry,” he said.
