FASEA set to expand approved course list

FASEA courses list

FASEA will expand its list of approved courses for financial advisers and is seeking industry input on their inclusion on the course register.

The Financial Adviser Standards and Ethics Authority (FASEA) has released draft amendments to the legislative instrument that contains the list of all approved current and historic degrees and courses as it seeks to formally recognise a further 10 courses of study.

FASEA stated that since September 2020 it had approved five current degrees, four bridging courses and one historic degree for recognition of prior learning, but did not add them to the list of courses within the legislative instrument at the time.

In releasing the amendment to the Corporations (Relevant Providers Degrees, Qualifications and Courses Standard) Determination 2020, the authority stated it would be adding a graduate diploma and bridging courses from the Australian Institute of Management, a master’s degree from Charles Sturt University, a graduate diploma from Central Queensland University, a bachelor degree from Southern Cross University and University of New South Wales and a graduate diploma and bridging course for the University of Tasmania.

“Further, the draft amendment includes adjustments to some historical course/degree details provided to FASEA by higher education providers post registration of the 2020 determination,” it stated.

These adjustments relate to degrees, diplomas and bridging courses variously offered by Central Queensland University, Charles Sturt University, Deakin University, Griffith University, Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, University of Canberra, University of Wollongong and Kaplan.

FASEA has invited feedback on the draft amendments and the consultation period closes on 30 July.
