SMSFA to hold in-person technical event

SMSFA technical summit

More than a year after its last face-to-face event, the SMSF Association will hold a technical summit on the Gold Coast in July for a limited number of attendees.

The SMSF Association (SMSFA) is set to host its first face-to-face large-scale event with a technical summit to take place on the Gold Coast in late July.

The SMSFA Technical Summit will be the first in-person event hosted by the industry body since its 2020 National Conference, held on the Gold Coast in February 2020, and will be limited to 500 attendees.

The event’s full program, which is yet to be released, will contain three keynote addresses and three concurrent streams providing attendees with a choice of five practical workshops and eight technical concurrent sessions, with many sessions being repeated.

SMSFA chief executive John Maroney said the technical summit was the result of feedback from members keen to return to face-to-face events while receiving high-quality technical and continuing professional development updates.

“Considering the success of the 2020 National Conference with members, we have opted to return to the Gold Coast and have a two-day summit intensively focused on the latest SMSF technical education delivered by an expert line-up of speakers,” Maroney said.

“We have decided to limit the number to 500 to increase interaction and networking opportunities between speakers and SMSF specialists and their peers.”

A number of speakers have already been announced, including association deputy chief executive and policy and education director Peter Burgess, Heffron SMSF Solutions managing director Meg Heffron, Colonial First State head of technical services Craig Day, DBA Lawyers special counsel Bryce Figot, BT Financial head of financial literacy and advocacy Bryan Ashenden, Super Sphere director Belinda Aisbett, Smarter SMSF chief executive Aaron Dunn and Accurium head of education Mark Ellem.

Further details will be released via the SMSFA’s website but it has already stated those unable to attend the summit will be able to watch the content on demand, with a shorter version of the event to be made available a week after the live event.
