Investment Trends appoints research leader

Investment Trends research head

Financial services research firm Investment Trends has appointed a new head of research replacing a long serving staff member.

Financial services research house Investment Trends has appointed Dr Irene Guiamatsia as its new head of research.

Guiamatsia brings with her over 20 years of experience covering a variety of areas, such as financial regulation, market research and academia. The appointment marks Guiamatsia’s second association with Investment Trends, having previously been its key industry expert for the retail online broking and leveraged trading markets, a role she vacated when she joined the Australian Securities and Investments Commission in 2019.

Her formal qualifications include a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering from École Polytechnique de Montréal completed in 1999. She also holds a PhD in aerospace engineering earned in 2007. Her list of academic achievements also includes postdoctoral research fellowships at Imperial College London and the University of Sydney.

“I’m delighted to have the invaluable expertise, experience and leadership of Irene in guiding our world-class team of industry experts,” Investment Trends chief executive of investments Sarah Brennan said.

“Investment Trends is ever focused on giving consumers a voice and improving outcomes in all markets we explore, and Irene and the team will strive to provide the highest-quality research, data analytics and actionable insights to support our valued clients,” she added.

Former research director Recep Peker will remain in an advisory capacity in the interim to provide continued support for the firm’s clients.

In September last year, then-Investment Trends chief executive Michael Blomfield departed the research house to join specialist software provider IRESS.
