The Institute of Public Accountants (IPA) has appointed a new president alongside two new deputy presidents.
The professional body announced its board of directors had elected Julie Williams to succeed outgoing IPA president Damien Moore.
A member of the IPA since 2003, Williams was its national divisional council chair from 2010 to 2017 before being appointed to the board, where she chaired the disciplinary tribunal and was a member of the remuneration committee.
“Ms Williams is committed to ensuring the growth trajectory of the IPA continues and the leadership position the IPA holds in the small to medium enterprise segment of the economy continues,” the IPA said.
Williams was formerly a partner at PPB Advisory before establishing her own practice in 2006.
“The IPA continues to be a strong advocate for small business and small to medium practices in all aspects of business operations, including their mental health and well-being,” she said.
“The IPA has achieved a great deal in recent years and I look forward to contributing further to the organisation’s growth objectives.
“On behalf of all members I would like to thank Damien Moore as the outgoing president for all of his work and efforts over the past four years. Under Damien’s stewardship the organisation has continued to grow and forge a pathway for the IPA to have a voice in the global accounting profession.”
In addition to electing Williams as president, the IPA board also elected Cheryl Mallett and Jason Parker as deputy presidents.
Last year, the institute was one of three major accounting bodies to announce they would not seek the reintroduction of the accountants’ exemption to provide SMSF advice, but would work together on reducing the complexity of regulations around the provision of financial advice.
