Topdocs launches estate planning training

Topdocs has extended its estate planning offering to financial advisers and will offer free continuing professional development (CPD) accredited training on how to incorporate estate planning services into their business.

The training will be offered online and at no cost as part of three one-hour webinars beginning in mid-March and will also include technical training on the key aspects of wills, enduring powers of attorney and non-estate assets.

Topdocs stated the sessions would be delivered in conjunction with The Legal Hub and partner legal firm McInnes Wilson Lawyers, with Neale Dallas, principal of the legal firm, providing the training on wills and powers of attorney.

The new training sessions build on a partnership formed with The Legal Hub last year to provide estate planning documentation created by lawyers for use by financial advisers discussing estate planning issues with clients.

Topdocs director Michael Spakman said the new training series provided advisers with an opportunity to ensure the entirety of a client’s financial plan was considered and to also consolidate their client base while opening access to intergenerational clients, creating a further source of income for advisory firms.

“Our training series, presented in conjunction with The Legal Hub and McInnes Wilson Lawyers, is designed to provide advisers with the tools and confidence to facilitate estate planning services for their clients, whilst working with our legal panel who provide the advice and documentation and therefore assume the legal risk. This, in turn, delivers a great outcome for advisers and their clients,” Spakman said.

The CPD accreditation for the series, which will take place on 11, 17 and 25 March, has been provided by the Financial Planning Association and advisers will be required to complete all three sessions to be able to claim the CPD credits, a Topdocs spokesperson said.
