The Australian Financial Complaints Authority (AFCA) has appointed Anna Campbell to fill the newly created position of general counsel.
Campbell joins the complaints body from her most recent role as Australian Securities Exchange (ASX) general manager of enterprise compliance where she was responsible for the organisation’s regulatory assurance arm that encompassed Corporations Act licensing requirements, competition and other statutory obligations.
The ASX governance arrangements also fell under Campbell’s jurisdiction, a responsibility that involved managing the legal counsel that provided support for a subsidiary board and the ASX tribunal.
Campbell originally took on the role of ASX deputy counsel, a position she held for nine years, after joining the exchange from Allianz where she was acting general counsel.
Her working history also includes other legal roles in both the private and public sectors.
“The role of General Counsel is a pivotal appointment for AFCA. I am thrilled to welcome Anna and her depth and breadth of experience into AFCA,” AFCA chief executive David Locke said.
“Anna’s cross-sector and regulatory experience, along with her knowledge of the financial services sector means she is exceptionally well placed to provide expert advice on complex legal matters, corporate governance and risk management to AFCA.
“AFCA will benefit greatly from her skills and experience and I am delighted that she has chosen to join us.”
Locke added Campbell’s appointment means AFCA has a new senior executive team in place now that will allow the complaints body to deliver fair outcome to its members and consumers more consistently.
Commenting on stepping into the new role Campbell said: “AFCA operates in a complex and changing environment, and the functions of corporate governance and risk are more important than ever. I am excited about the challenge and look forward to shaping the way AFCA delivers it legal and compliance functions.”
Earlier this month AFCA launched its complaints tracking tool.
