SMSF Association board expands with two new appointments

The SMSF Association has named two new specialist board members, expanding its membership from six to eight.

The association appointed Tracey Scotchbrook and Michael Houlihan, who will join from June 1, with the appointments a direct response to the expressions of interest called for late last year.

Scotchbrook moves onto the board following previous involvement with the association as a member of its professional standards and national membership committees.

She is a chartered accountant with SMSF specialist and public practice certificates and chair of the association’s West Australia Local Community.

Houlihan, who is chair of the Victorian Local Community, has more than 30 years’ experience in financial services and is executive director of Strategic Wealth Services and non-executive director of Evergreen Consultants.

“Both Tracey and Michael met our selection criteria of having managed complex stakeholder relationships, experience at senior management and board levels, relevant tertiary qualifications and ongoing involvement with the SMSF sector,” SMSF Association chair Deborah Ralston said.

“What’s important to note is that we attracted a very strong field of almost 30 candidates, demonstrating to me and my fellow directors the commitment and enthusiasm our members have, not just to the association but to the SMSF sector.”

Recently, former Labor MP and financial services and superannuation spokesman Bernie Ripoll joined the board, replacing outgoing board member Cath Mulcare.

Current board members are Professor Deborah Ralston (chair), Robin Bowerman (vice chairman), Andrew Hamilton, Robyn FitzRoy, Liam Shorte and Bernie Ripoll.
