BT head of SMSF announces departure

BT Financial Group (BTFG) head of SMSF Craig Lawrenson is stepping down from his role to take up the newly-created chief operations officer (COO) position at wealth management platform Hub24.

He will start his position in mid-August and will report directly to Hub24 managing director Andrew Alcock.

Lawrenson established BTFG’s SMSF business and was appointed head of SMSF in 2016, tasked with the responsibility of the strategic direction and growth of BTFG’s SMSF products, services and business.

More recently, heading up product and business architecture, he was involved with the strategy and implementation of the BT Panorama platform.

During his career at BTFG, Lawrenson was also integral to the development of BT Wrap and also took on the responsibility of the Asgard business in 2010.

“This is an exciting opportunity for me,” Lawrenson said.

“I am joining Hub24 as it enters a new phase of growth; I look forward to working with the team at Hub24 as we position the business for the future.”

The appointment follows a period of strong growth for Hub24, with the firm tripling its funds under administration in the past two years, reaching $5 billion last month.

Alcock said the new role reflected the ongoing evolution of the business.

“Craig’s appointment to COO reflects not only the rapid growth of our business but our ongoing commitment to providing a market-leading product and customer experience,” Alcock said.

“Craig has an impressive reputation in the industry and we’re delighted to have him join the Hub24 team.”

Lawrenson is a chartered accountant and brings more than 20 years’ experience in the financial services industry, holding several roles across operations, distribution, product management and development.
