New book tackles super challenges for SMSFs

Two tax and SMSF experts have released a new book to help trustees take the best steps in preparation for the incoming, complex changes to superannuation.

Major Street Publishing fast-tracked the release of Keep Your SMSF Simple, written by Barbara Smith and Ed Koken, ahead of 1 July when many of the changes start.

Smith and Koken run boutique advisory Oasis Wealth.

The content was essential reading, presented as a how-to manual, for every trustee and SMSF member, Smith said.

“We are used to governments tinkering around the edges of superannuation, but the changes coming in this year are quite far-reaching and a lot of our clients were very concerned that they understood them,” Smith noted.

“Ed and I did so much research for our own clients that we thought we’d like to share it in a book.

“Reading the book will save you wading through legislation, rules and regulations, and we include a lot of case studies so that you can see how the changes affect individual circumstances.”

She said the comprehensive index allowed readers to navigate the book and find the information that applied to their situation.

“We think most trustees will need to also get professional advice to make sure they are compliant, but our book will better educate them on what questions they need to ask,” she said.

Smith and Koken have also written Keep It Super Simple and Retire Richer Younger.
