Andrea Slattery has resigned from her role as SMSF Association chief executive.
At a press conference this morning it was announced that Slattery would step down in May, to be succeeded by International Association of Insurance Supervisors head of capital and insolvency John Maroney.
Slattery will continue as a non-executive director of the SMSF Association.
SMSF Association chair thanked Slattery on behalf of the board for all of her hard work and achievements throughout her time as chief executive.
“We are deeply indebted to Andrea for the leadership she’s provided to the SMSF sector and the Association,” he said.
“She has brought commitment, enthusiasm, experience and knowledge to the task, and can look back with enormous pride on an enviable record in terms of what she has achieved for the SSMF sector. With this legacy the board is delighted that Andrea is continuing as a non-executive director.
Commenting on her decision to step down as chief executive Slattery said: “Both the growth of our superannuation sector, its leadership in advocating dignified retirement and national prosperity as well as its integrity, are testimony to what has been achieved, making this an ideal time to pass the baton to John for the next growth phase for the SMSF sector and the association.”
Maroney said he was excited to take on his new role with the SMSF Association .
“Under Andrea’s leadership it has attracted a deserved reputation for its leadership role in the SMSF and financial services sectors, whether it be policy advocacy work, lifting educational standards or building a new profession,” he said.
“I have always been passionate about Australia’s superannuation and retirement income system and this position gives me the opportunity to focus on issues and concerns of millions of Australians,” Maroney added.
