Workshop created for newly-licensed accountants

Mayflower Consulting has designed an intensive one-day workshop to provide a hands-on practical approach and a focus on change management for accountants who are now operating under an Australian financial services licence or as an authorised representative.

Many accountants had become licensed, but were still unsure about how to make the most of their investment, Mayflower Consulting managing director Sarah Penn said.

“You’ve done the hard work, now it’s time to look at how you are going to promote your new advice capabilities,” Penn said.

“What are you going to offer? Who are you going to offer it to? And how are you going to integrate the new services into your business model?

“Answering those questions is just the beginning – making the most of your licence is going to require an actual change in your business and that’s why we’ve got a strong focus on change management from both a business and a personal perspective.”

The interactive workshop will be facilitated by a number of subject experts and will focus on three key areas.

Penn, a former Macquarie director and now an independent business development consultant, will go through the process of identifying opportunities and how to capture them in the business, as well as develop specific market strategies.

Business transformation specialist Jenny Kerswill, who has over 25 years’ experience driving organisational and cultural change across the financial services industry, will provide strategies for leading change in the business.

Finally Sherisse Cohen, a highly regarded facilitator, trainer, executive coach and psychologist, will deliver her unique approach to dealing with personal stress management.

“This program has been designed to ensure not only will accountants walk away with a practical plan of how they are going to promote their expanded business, but they will also gain the absolutely required skills of change management and, just as importantly, personal stress management,” Penn said.

The workshop will be held on 24 November in Sydney and will be limited to 10 participating businesses.

The event was aimed at helping newly-licensed accountants take a leap forward and guiding them through how to package their advice capabilities “without looking like a slimy sales person or falling in a heap due to stress”, the firm said.
