The team behind independent SMSF audit firm Engage Super last week joined Deloitte in a move that will enhance the professional services firm’s capability in the SMSF space.
Jo Heighway, who founded Engage and was its chief executive, has become Deloitte SMSF assurance and advisory partner.
Deloitte said the professional services firm’s dedicated SMSF audit team blended extensive SMSF experience with audit and regulatory strength to offer an efficient and affordable service.
A Deloitte spokesperson confirmed to selfmanagedsuper that it did not formally acquire the Engage business, but “Engage staff were employed as individual hires”.
The firm said it was delighted Heighway and her team had joined Deloitte to provide specialist audit services to the SMSF sector.
“The arrival of Jo Heighway and the Engage team of audit professionals on June 30 will enhance the depth, capability and credibility of our SMSF practice,” Deloitte financial services industry audit leader Frances Borg said.
In this fast-growing sector of the superannuation market, Deloitte said it believed the significant demand for a highly efficient and affordable SMSF audit service would continue to grow.
Heighway said: “I joined Deloitte as I believe it has the audit and technological capabilities to enable our team to become the leading SMSF audit practice in the country.”
Heighway was a former SMSF auditor with Deloitte from 1995 to 1998.
Engage was founded in 2005.
