Lobby group incorporates advisory council

Lobby group the SMSF Owners’ Alliance has formed a policy advisory council for the purpose of providing strategic advice to the body’s board on how to best represent the interests of its members.

The initial council will be made up of three individuals with significant standing and experience within the superannuation, financial services and investment industries.

Most notably from an SMSF perspective, former ATO assistant deputy commissioner of superannuation Stuart Forsyth is one council member.

Forsyth is now a director of McPherson Super Consulting and a non-executive director of Super IQ.

Joining Forsyth and bringing over 20 years of financial services experience to the council is Hood Sweeney managing director and former Financial Planning Association chair Matthew Rowe.

The final appointee to the council is Australian Shareholders’ Association chair Diana D’Ambra.

Commenting on the inception of the policy advisory panel, SMSF Owners’ Alliance chair Duncan Fairweather said: “The appointment of Diana D’Ambra, Stuart Forsyth and Matthew Rowe to our new SMSF policy advisory council will create a sounding board for ideas on the development of SMSF Owners’ as a strong representative voice for Australians who have stepped up to take responsibility for their own retirement savings.

“Diana, Stuart and Matthew will bring an independent and knowledgeable perspective to the table and help to guide our thinking on the important strategic policy issues with which we are dealing.”
