SMSF Service Provider Awards: Commercial property
Since the demise of high interest rates in Australia, investors have been hunting for alternative assets that deliver yield, resulting in significant interest in the property sector.
AMP Capital head of retail and corporate business Craig Keary says in light of this appetite, the demand for quality, well-managed property has been equally as strong. “We’ve found customers want to work with managers that have a strong brand and a depth of expertise,” Keary says.
AMP Capital won the CoreData SMSF award for commercial property in the SMSF advising financial planner category.
“AMP Capital has a long history in property investing, dating back to Sydney’s first skyscraper in 1962,” Keary says.
“We are the largest property fund manager in Australia and we are very involved, from owning property through to managing and distribution. For SMSF investors we offer the Core Property Fund, which provides access to Australian and global direct property and Australian and global listed property securities and listed real estate funds.”
This year, the business was focused on building out its capability in the SMSF market, he says. “AMP Capital is very committed to the SMSF segment.
We’ve listened to feedback from advisers and trustees and we’ve been working on making sure we’re developing the right solutions for them.” he says.
In order to ensure advisers remain attracted to its property offerings, one of the things AMP Capital has added is a dedicated solutions team, he says. The purpose of this team is to work with advisers and trustees to determine what it is they are looking for, what sorts of trends they are interested in and then look at how we can deliver that for them,” he says, adding it is encouraging to receive industry recognition for its efforts.
“To be an inaugural winner is testament to the strong team we have in place, the strength of the AMP Capital brand and expertise and our solid track record in investment management.”
In the new low interest rate environment, he says the company has recorded good flows into its funds.
AMP Capital head of retail solutions Edwina Maloney accepted the award on the night.
