Heffron unveils intermediate SMSF course

SMSF Education Heffron Super Extension Super Foundations

Heffron has broadened its educational options for professionals seeking to delve deeper into their SMSF understanding beyond the entry-level Super Foundations course.

Specialist SMSF education and administration service provider Heffron has launched an intermediate-level education course tailored for practitioners with a solid understanding of SMSFs and superannuation.

The Super Extension educational program, featuring seven topic areas with six modules each, aims to enhance the knowledge gained from the Super Foundations course launched in February 2023.

“We are very excited to launch the next step in Heffron’s online education program. It’s a deep dive into seven key superannuation and SMSF topics, but simplified with the clear language and practical examples we’re known for,” Heffron managing director Meg Heffron said.

“Super Extension will be the natural pathway for emerging SMSF experts in accounting and financial advice.

“We also know the first person clients talk to in many accounting firms is not the SMSF team. We want our individual, self-contained Super Extension topics to help those professionals deepen their knowledge on the issues that matter to their clients.”

The initial instalment of the Super Extension series, focusing on deductions, eligibility criteria for contributions, contribution caps and related contribution concerns for SMSFs, has been released, Heffron said, with more scheduled to be introduced in the near future.

“Launching the first topic area of contributions as part of our larger Super Extension course is a big milestone for Heffron. Lyn Formica, our head of education and content, has developed much of the content and we’re excited to be bringing her deep knowledge and experience to life in this way,” she said.

“She’s already working on the remaining topics and expects to release the second in the series shortly – benefits.”

She noted the decision to introduce a more comprehensive course stemmed from the demand for advanced knowledge following the success of the firm’s entry-level course.

“We’ve had great feedback from our customers on the flexibility of Super Foundations, enabling them to fit it into their busy working week,” she stated.

“It will be great to see that same principle help people doing even more comprehensive courses.”

The release of the module follows the launch of Heffron’s webinar series, Super in 60, covering key issues, risks and opportunities in superannuation for professionals who may not work directly in the super sector.
