The SMSF Professionals’ Association of Australia’s (SPAA) chief executive has been appointed to the association’s board.
Slattery’s appointment, effective from 31 May, was ratified at the last board meeting and will assist her to continue to build SPAA’s vision to be one of the leading professional associations in Australia.
SPAA chairman Andrew Hamilton said the board firmly believed the time was right to assign her as an executive director.
“The SMSF sector faces many challenges going forward and this measure will allow the chief executive and the board to provide genuine strategic direction, and encourages all board members to be strategically focused,” Hamilton said.
Slattery said good governance now required the chief executive to be on the board to ensure there was joint ownership of the strategy between directors and senior management.
SPAA continued to experience growth in membership in its status as a thought leader, she said.
“It is an opportune time to join the board, especially when there are myriad changes happening in our industry, to focus on nurturing SPAA’s vision and continue to develop best practice for the SMSF sector,” she said.
Slattery was one of the founders of the association and was a board director for the first three years after it was established in 2003.
